I spent a week being vegetarian. Yes, me. The biggest meat eater you'll ever meet.

mood: accomplished
friscogiantsbabe (9:08:13 PM): you're being vegetarian this week?
friscogiantsbabe (9:08:14 PM): YOU

I got all sorts of shocked responses.
I know.
Just listen.

Last Tuesday, (and yes, I know it's not quite Tuesday yet), Noah and I were approached by some student organization in the plaza after we had just eaten some very delicious Philly Steak sandwiches.
This kid asks us if she can ask us a few questions.
What the hell? I think.
Sure.
So she asks us some questions. I don't remember them, which probably means they weren't so important.
At any rate, she asks if we'll pledge to be vegetarian for just a week.
What?
I hesitated.
Weighing my options I figured, this might not REALLY help the planet since it's just a weeks worth and we're so few people, but maybe I can take this as a personal challenge.
So I did.
We signed up.

Since then, I've had a lot of trouble finding food because all my favorite places to eat are meat-filled.
Savory beef teriyaki at Shogun.
Delicious clam chowder at Saturn.
Delectable philly cheese steak at Joe's.
And so on.

The night (or a few nights) before, Noah and I had gone to Saturn Cafe. I hadn't realized it was a vegetarian restaurant until after they brought the burger I'd ordered. Wanting to spit out the not-meaty-at-all aftertaste, i trudged through the meal and shoved the rest of it in a to-go box when I could take no more.

Now that I had pledged to be vegetarian, I was determined to go back to Saturn and find something I liked on the menu. Which I did. Their fried egg sandwiches. My god, they're amazing. They come with these delicious home fries. And afterwards, we get Chocolate Madness. They have a full on madness and a mini madness and I swear the size difference is indiscernible, but there's a 2 dollar price difference.
So this was our pattern for a few days.
(Noah, feel free to comment on whatever I'm missing, haha.)

Katie came to visit for the weekend - friday through sunday.
I took her to Saturn and of course, she hated it. Apparently she hates potatoes. Who knew?
So she and I went to a random asian restaurant that's not Shogun the next day. I got teriyaki tofu.
Worst mistake of my life.
It was foul and disgusting and I made Katie eat most of it.
Next day, I looked up restaurants in Santa Cruz on yelp. Places with vegetarian options that weren't too expensive, but also had something for Katie.
We ended up choosing a random restaurant that I had to use our iPhones to navigate to.
My iPhone froze halfway through.
We used hers.
We walked the wrong direction and ended up coming in a huge circle.
In the pouring rain.
With broken umbrellas.
With Katie carrying her huge feathered angel wings in a too-small bag.
With time constraints - her bus would be at the metro center within the hour.
Eventually we found the place -it was located in a plaza near Soquel. Not that far. 105 South River. Place with nice atmosphere.
So I ordered vegetarian sushi.
They came with avacado, cream cheese, basil, and nuts.

I've never wasted more money on food I hated. This includes the tofu. Oh man, ESPECIALLY the tofu. The only tofu I will eat from now on will be restricted to my miso soups, which I love.

So aside from those things, I didn't really eat much else. I had a 4 cheese hot pocket once.
Cereal another time.
I ran out of plates and spoons and non-meat materials in my fridge fairly quickly.

I had a piece of bread with a piece of cheese microwaved on top of it today. That's about it.

What to do, what to do?

A solution's not coming to me.
I hate vegetables.
I don't think I was cut out for this vegetarian business.

But at least I gave myself this personal challenge and beat it. I'm damn proud.

Stop me if you've heard this one.

So a student walks into a classroom,
and approaches another student
"I just realized I've been a German student for 3 years and I can only say 'library' in Spanish"
and leaves the classroom because it isnt hers.

Linda you kill me.

I saw Cashback earlier today in a cute little theater with about 20 seats in it. That was it - it was so small that I was embarassed to even eat my popcorn or laugh aloud because I might be the only one doing so...loudly... :p
Anyway, it's my new favorite theater. haha
Cashback was amazing- Ed and I decided to watch it after watching the short film of the same name that the movie was based on.

On a darker note, I haven't gotten around to reading Harry Potter even though I should be done by now. I just haven't been near my copy of it. I'm going to go read it soon.

Also I've gotten addicted to this one videogame.. I can't remember the name though.. but it's on N64.. Ed said it's a lot like WOW.. oh god.

I quite forgot how much I love movies. Especially with Ben Affleck in them. I've been a fan of his stuff since he was younger than I am.

Birthday gifts I got: money from grandmother, few books from father, skirt and shirt from mother, balloon and Clue and a book or two from aunty and ed, money from uncle, money from cousin, pony book and lotion and my own clothing from sophie, card from charmaine, card from katie and I THINK that's it. oh wait.. aron got me a book and a pipe<3 and i'm not sure but the shortbread that tom baked mightve been my birthday present... or maybe he just baked it for my party.. oh yah and the cake from sophie and anna.. hehe.. THANK YOU ALL!

So Aza is annoyed with livejournal ads and is therefore going to go somewhere where she doesn't have to look at them.

Bye, friends.

the o.c., dawsons creek, my so called life, and countless other tv shows out there that have stopped production... i love these shows. im not really sure why, i im so caught onto these kinds of shows. maybe its the fact that i can identify with them.

i was going to make this entry introspective but its late , nearly 1 AM, and i guess i'd just rather talk about how much of these shows i've seen so far..

the o.c. - um. i have to watch season 3 episode 24, 25, and all of season 4.
dawsons creek - wow, i have a lot of this left to watch. like more than half the seasons.
my so called life - i've watched all 19 episodes. i hate the fact that the show ended on a cliffhanger. they were expecting to keep it going in another season but claire danes quit. damnit.

the little things in life never fail to evoke emotion in me.
like how charmaine and i always smile at each other before saying goodnight.
or how aron asked me, formally, to junior prom.
or how i get really into tv series and keep watching even if i know what happens.
or how jared leto exists.
or chocolate.

stuff which occurs
11:19pm 15/11/2006

mood: contemplative
music: world at large, iron horse

I like songs about drifters - books about the same.
They both seem to make me feel a little less insane.
Walked on off to another spot.
I still haven't gotten anywhere that I want.
Did I want love? Did I need to know?
Why does it always feel like I'm caught in an undertow?
The moths beat themselves to death against the lights.
Adding their breeze to the summer nights.
Outside, water like air was great.
I didn't know what I had that day.
Walk a little farther to another plan.
You said that you did, but you didn't understand.
I know that starting over is not what life's about.
But my thoughts were so loud I couldn't hear my mouth.
My thoughts were so loud I couldn't hear my mouth.
My thoughts were so loud.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

so another day come and gone.
drews birthday.
graces birthday.
adams birthday.
aron and my sixth month.

not a lot to say except that modest mouse is pretty good and that i crave cereal and that i have lots of vague one liners to say.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

interpretations of things kill me, because how do you know how someone wants you to interpret something? thats why stuff is hard for me, because i am always afraid of being so off that people laugh at me.
because it happens.
a lot.
not just with me, i know it happens to other people too, i've seen it happen.
but its still not fun.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ok that was pointless basically.
also, that analogy i made that one time? it was for you.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and i'm not afraid to lie to you.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ok i'm off to go eat cereal and not do homework. bye dolls

the drumming to 'blue light' reminds me of a heartbeat
11:09pm 13/11/2006

mood: cold
music: until the day i die (acoustic) - story of the year
so yeah, lets talk about my day.
i...drove to school, had a pizza pocket, hated teachers, laughed at some other teachers, pondered what it would be like if it snowed (i'd make snow angels, catch snowflakes on my tongue, and throw snow balls at random teachers who have wounded my pride and gpa in the past), did things that required effort, slept on the floor, showered, ate things, and decided today would be the day when i stopped being so pessimistic. ... not in any particular order or sequence or chain-of-events.

i kinda sorta succeeded in some parts of life today.
unfortunately, not in any major ones.

and i've STILL got to work on that pessimistic streak.

hello kiddies. todays topic will be drugs.
10:27pm 26/10/2006

mood: dunno.
music: engine driver, the decemberists
drugs hurt your body, mind, and soul.

they make you feel good for a while but if someone knows what you do, they should at least have the common sense not to have much respect for you.

once you have drugs, there isnt even life without them.

you cant quit, and if you try, all you'll do is spend every waking moment wishing you could just have one more smoke, shoot up, toke, whatever. you want your ganja, your speed, your magic-happy-place that you go.

its a pathetic lifestyle and i'm seeing way too many people resort to these things.
i dont hate you guys, but i really wish you'd open your eyes.
